A unique and impressive home in Utah just received the latest of many honors and recognitions for its impressive “green” characteristics. Officially known as Bellasol, the house has been nicknamed “The Zero Home.” That’s because it is a perfect example of a so-called “net zero home,” or a house that produces as much energy as it uses.

Located in Herriman, Utah, the home recently received the Gold Nugget Grand Award for the Best Zero Net Energy Design.

Spray foam is one of the materials that help the home achieve that elusive and difficult net-zero designation. The home is outfitted with spray foam insulation. It also features a HEPA air filtration system, solar power, low-e windows, super high-efficiency HVAC systems and even dual-flush toilets.

Net zero status is a difficult level to achieve, and requires considerable initial investment, along with lots of professionals with specific expertise. While most homeowners won’t try to aim for anything quite so ambitious, many do want to make their properties as energy efficient. To serve these customers, contractors need a variety of spray foam equipment, such as they can find at Intech Equipment & Supply.
