Spray Foam a Star of Eco Homes Tour

During an annual eco-solar home tour in Edmonton, Canada, spray foam got a lot of attention. That’s because several of the properties on the tour used spray foam insulation, coating and roofing materials to help increase energy efficiency.

The weekend-long event is sponsored by a nonprofit organization called the Eco-Solar Home Tour Society and has been a popular event in the area for 15 years. While much of the early focus was on solar power, the offerings have expanded to include a variety of other energy efficient materials—including of course spray foam.

Visitors on the tour got to speak directly to homeowners, builders and contractors to learn about the techniques and supplies used to make the properties so eco-friendly and energy efficient. Of course, a big highlight is hearing the homeowners rave about their amazingly low utility bills.

The tour features an interesting variety of homes, including an elegant urban home worth $1.2 million and a “net-zero” townhouse with a garden. (A net-zero home generates as much energy as it consumes in a year.)

While the specific layouts, locations and design styles of these properties differ greatly, one thing they all share in common is a dedication to sustainability and energy savings.

The contractors were likely eager to talk about the materials and tools they used to install spray foam in these homes. This includes a variety of spray foam equipment, such as that you can find at our online store at Intech Equipment & Supply.
