Mark your calendars: the International Roofing Expo will be held on February 24 through 26, 2015 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
It may technically still be summer, but it’s not too early to make your business travel plans for the upcoming winter. (And if you are in an area that tends to suffer through harsh winters, the prospect of spending some time in New Orleans in February may be added incentive to make your reservations now!)
This is a can’t miss event for businesses and individuals in the residential or commercial roofing industry, along with anyone involved in the general building or contracting field. The Expo is designed for decision-makers and those having decision-making influence from every segment of the roofing construction and maintenance industry. Attendees include consultants, builders, architects, installers, foreman, superintendents and technicians, among others.
This event offers a great opportunity to make valuable connections with colleagues and leaders in the field. It is also a terrific learning opportunity, as the sessions are always filled with useful information and educational workshops. The schedule includes 44 sessions in eight educational tracks. There will be a diverse range of topics including everything from code revisions to business technology. Specific materials to be discussed will include metal roofs and asphalt shingles.
Other topics that are sure to be of high interest include union contracting, safety monitoring, marketing strategies, the role of the foreman, and a discussion about employee compensation, performance and motivation. We suspect the session on minimizing legal exposure will be well attended, as will a panel on training and retaining valuable employees.
Not surprisingly, green technologies are also expected to be a hot topic, and while specific details on many panels are still being finalized, we would expect spray foam roofing to get quite a bit of attention.
This event is also a rare opportunity to get the inside scoop on the newest products and technologies that will impact your business. You can also participate in product clinics to get demonstrations and hands-on interaction with the latest hot new products in the industry.
The show floor will be packed with exhibitors featuring a wide range of multi-dimensional manufacturers, distributors and representatives of all sizes displaying products, services, technologies and innovations in roofing materials and related products. Among some particular show floor highlights are the business & technology pavilion, where you can learn about the latest products and services that can keep your operation running smoothly and efficiently. The metal marketplace is another highlight, as it offers you the chance to explore displays set up by leading manufacturers supplying creative and innovative metal products, designs, building concepts, tools and services.
To incorporate the chance to do a good deed into your trip, arrive a day early and take part in the Community Service Day on February 23. You can join in a group of volunteers who will help rebuild the homes of families that are elderly, disabled or financially unable to support the renovation.
The keynote speaker will be Ken Schmidt, a former executive at Harley-Davidson, who will share his expertise on brand-building, corporate positioning and customer relations. Schmidt will share his insight on how businesses of any size and scope can, like Harley-Davidson, create meaningful differentiation from competitors; maintain veteran customer relationships while innovatively pursuing new ones; improve sales through customer referrals; attract and retain employees; and revitalize corporate culture.
Attendees can start the week off on a festive note by joining in on the welcome party. Held in historic Generations Hall, this provides a great setting for an evening of Louisiana culture, food and drink—while offering some valuable networking opportunities at the same time.
As a special bonus, attendees will have an opportunity to win a $2,000 prize by playing the Treasure Quest game while planning their show floor experience.
Online registration will open in mid-September, but meanwhile you can check out the Expo website for information about hotels, travel and New Orleans attractions.
