Wild Summer Weather Takes Toll on Roofing Materials

When people think of weather inflicting damage on a roof (or property in general), most would likely envision the harsh impact of ice or the strain put on a roof by the heavy weight of accumulating snow. And while it is true that these winter conditions can indeed be tough, if not fatal, to a weak or vulnerable roof—especially during a rough winter like the one recently experienced by many parts of the country—Mother Nature can also push a roof to its limit at other times of the year, as well.

This has certainly proven true in recent weeks, when various parts of the U.S. experienced a wide assortment of wild weather. There were tornadoes in the Midwest, hurricanes in the south and even some unusually chilly cold snaps in other regions. Just recently, some sections of the country were also invaded by hailstorms featuring chunks of hail the size of golf balls or larger.

Rain, wind and fluctuations in extreme temperatures can all strain a roof or cause its surface materials to degrade, crack or tear. Leaks are also very common, especially after an area is deluged by heavy rains or severe storms.

One silver lining of summertime roof issues is that this is the perfect time to do any necessary repairs, when you likely don’t have to worry about exposing the structure to frigid temperatures or snow and ice.

Spray foam roofing and coatings are a great choice for repairing or strengthening a roof that may have been taking a beating from Mother Nature. Intech Equipment & Supply has commercial roofing equipment, spray foam equipment, and everything else needed to complete a commercial roofing job.
