Equipment You Need to Start a Spray Foam Insulation Business

By Kevin Malone

The spray foam insulation market continue to grow. Markets and Research calls it a “high-prospect market with a swift growth outlook” through 2030. That translates to significant opportunity.

Whether you plan to start a spray foam insulation business or expand your existing contractor services, the spray foam insulation equipment you choose can make a big difference in your success.

You need to make sure you get the right equipment for the job.

The Spray Foam Insulation Equipment You Need

Intech Equipment and Supply is a full-service spray foam equipment and parts supplier, featuring high-quality machines from trusted manufacturers such as Graco, PMC, Leister, and Honeywell. You can buy machines and parts, turnkey spray foam insulation rigs, and everything you need to start a spray foam insulation business.

Spray Foam Machines

Spray foam machines are the backbone of your SPF jobs. Most contractors will choose their spray foam insulation equipment depending on the type of job you plan on doing. For example, if you are just starting and plan on doing small or residential jobs, an entry-level spray foam machine may be just what you need.

However, if you plan on doing a large volume of business or working on larger, commercial projects, you are going to want something with higher output to do larger jobs more efficiently.

There are three basic types of spray foam machines:

  • Air-driven spray foam machines for entry-level contractors
  • Electric spray foam machines that provide mid-level output
  • Hydraulic spray foam machine with high foam output

The experts at Intech Equipment and Supply can help you find the best spray foam machine for your business needs.

Spray Foam Rigs

Spray foam insulation rigs are self-contained, portable units that house everything you need at the job site. They can include the spray foam machine, power generators, air dryers, drum restraint systems, and safety equipment.

With everything in an enclosed space, your crews can increase efficiency and productivity. Options include:

  • Towable trailers
  • Compact mini-trailers
  • Box trucks

You can customize your spray foam insulation rig any way you want, opt for a spray foam rig equipment package, or let Intech Equipment and Supply provide a turnkey spray foam rig that is ready to go.

Spray Foam Guns

The spray foam gun you choose is also an important decision. The capacity of the spray foam gun will play a role in how efficient you can be. At the same time, you also have to be concerned about keeping your spray gun clean.

The material inside the gun is released, but any material that gets stuck inside will start to cure and harden. Three types of spray foam guns are designed to prevent that from happening:

  • Mechanical purge spray foam guns: Mechanical purge guns have a valving rod inside the mixing chamber. When the trigger is pulled, the valving rod moves aside letting the chemicals flow into the mixing chamber. When the trigger is released, the rod is moved back in place and any mixing materials left inside are purged.
  • Air purge spray foam guns: Air purge guns remove any residual material inside the gun using a blast of air. Rather than use a valve rod, the mixing chamber itself moves back and forth to allow or prevent chemicals from passing through.
  • Solvent purge spray foam guns: Solvent purge guns use a cleaning solvent to neutralize and flush out any remaining material.

Spray Foam Parts and Accessories

You will also need replacement parts and accessories to keep your equipment operating at peak capacity. Replacement hoses, nozzles, valves, touch-up kits, and other maintenance supplies should be part of your start-up.

Before you buy any spray foam insulation equipment, you will want to make sure you know that replacement parts are available. This is especially important if you are buying used equipment. You do not want to get stuck with a piece of gear that you cannot find parts for.
